It's That Time of Year Again!

Today is the third Thursday of November, which of course means "Le Beaujolais nouveau est arrivé!"

Nouveau is frequently derided as one of the worst marketing gimmicks in wine, but I enjoy its arrival - I like to think of it as the official start of the wine lover's holiday season. It's a celebration of the harvest just past, much like our annual Thanksgiving feast a week later. And Nouveau's fruitiness may make it the best partner for the dreaded palate-killer, cranberry sauce.

Besides, this was supposed to have been a terrific harvest in Beaujolais, so bring it on!

So as the weather chills and we begin to think of snow, holiday presents and sparkling wine, let's raise a toast to 2009's harvest with a glass of its first wine.
