This year's Virginia Governor's Cup - for red wines, at least - was awarded last Friday to King Family Vineyards for their 2007 Meritage, a stylish Bordeaux blend grown in vineyards just northwest of Charlottesville. Fifteen wineries took gold medals in this year's competition, which serves as a nice snapshot of Virginia's wine industry, which now stands at 157 wineries.
